London Music Gigs

Hyde Park could cut music concerts

It is feared that it may no longer be possible to host large concerts on central London’s Hyde Park because of noise complaints. This year, a number of major gigs have been booked, including a performance by international music sensation Madonna, who is set to entertain there on July 17. The total number of live music concerts will fall from 14 last year to just 9 concerts for this year.

One month like this

Normally I find it pretty difficult to get excited about sporting events. I can imagine myself getting more passionate about HR software than I would about a football match or a game of cricket. And yet every four years I find myself glued to the Olympics coverage, watching some of the weirdest sports known to man. OK, everyone watches the athletics, especially the 100 metres, but last time around I knew things had gone too far when I was sitting at 4am with a can of lager watching the rhythmic gymnastics…

Comeback Kings and Queens

There’s only one topic of conversation on the lips of music fans this week. That’s right – the news that Steps are to reform and tour the UK next year! Only kidding; we are all of course mourning the news that Westlife have decided to call it a day after ten years in the music business. OK, that was a joke as well. But it was a bad move by the Stone Roses to hold the press conference announcing their long-awaited but much-denied reunion in the same week that music journalists all over the country were spoilt for choice as to which story to go with.

In The Woods at a secret location in Kent on September 3, 2011

Isn’t it fun to go to an event without knowing much about its location? In the Woods which is in its sixth year will be hosting the event at an unknown place somewhere in Kent. The place will only be known to ticket holders. Exciting, isn’t it? What’s more? The ticket prices are exclusive of camping too. Apart from great music one can gorge on great food, watch films at screenings, sit around the bonfire and much more. Laurel Collective, Lucy Rose, Micachu and the Shapes, Post War Years, Man Like Me, Dels, Three Trapped Tigers, Pete And The Pirates.

So, go ahead and get the tickets, even if you have to cut down on your other expenses such as the money you spend on diesel England, by travelling on public transport instead of your own car.

Opera and More

World Music is an important part of London culture. With so much to choose from, you can listen to music from many different countries without even leaving the city. The Telegraph’s music section offers a clear insight into the many different styles of music on offer in the capital. Opera and Reggae have both seen a recent revival in the city with La Wally being favourably reviewed at the Opera Holland Park and Aloe Blacc playing at Somerset House.

Why Not Prom?

When you see London gig you immediately think of a bar or venue at some time well after dark. For Independent music lovers this is sadly the norm. The truth is, that if you are a real music lover, and not somebody who just follows the trends, it is a brilliant past time to get five pound day of tickets for the proms. Now a days, there is a lot of effort to get non classical music lovers into classical music. Here is my top tip, show up for your first five pound ticket, then come home and educate yourself on some bit of classical music before heading out to your next prom, it will clearly be worth it.

Pulp are back!

Pulp are back!

What’s this weeks projected forecast? Click here for human resource software ! Have you informed payroll about you new starter? Boring, boring, boring! Everyone needs a break from the mundane tasks of everyday life, such a work, cleaning, the weekly food shop. Luckily living in London means that there is no end to things to do and see.

One of my most favourite London venues is the Brixton Academy on Stockwell Road – SW9 9SL. From Toots and the Maytails to Morrissey, there is always someone for everyone gig’in here. One extra special event not to be missed will be Pulp, who are playing at Brixton Academy on 31st August. Pulp are of course an English Indie band, who were all the way back in 1978. Fronted by the charismatic Jarvis Cocker, they found prominence in the mid 1990’s with albums such as ‘different class’ and ‘his n hers’. However, the band did break up for five years between 1997 – 2002 when key member Russell Senior made an exit and Jarvis meanwhile was battling a drug addiction and demise of a long term relationship. Thankfully in 2010 it was announced that one of the original Pulp line ups would being playing Wireless that year and the positive response and reception have led them to where they are today.

2011 is a busy year for Pulp, as well as playing venue on their tour such as Brixton they are also featured in a number of key summer festival line ups. Pulp played Isel of Wight Festival, will be playing Reading and Leeds festival as well Primavera Sound, Exit and Wireless Festival.

Manic Clan are Back in Town

Manic Clan are Back in Town

Not many people automatically think of Wales when it comes to music and entertainment. Yet the quieter corner of the UK has been producing some amazing acts for years. Catherine Zeta Jones, Catherine Jenkins, Charlotte Church, Doctor Who and many more all hail from Wales in recent times. However one band proves that the south west isn’t just about sheep and time travel.

The Manic Street Preachers are still going strong after years or popularity and or on tour again this year playing dates both in London and around Europe this summer. Appearing at the Camden Roundhouse in July as part of the iTunes festival, they are then set to zoom off to Hungary for the Sziget festival. Manic fans should make sure they get good international roaming charges if they want to share their experience abroad, and with so many smartphone users around, the need for excellent broadband will be in high demand.

Due to play tracks from all their albums the boys will probably concentrate on the latter material from recent years including ‘Postcard’s from a young man’. Desperate to get away from the influence of Richey Edwards who disappeared back in 1995, the Manics have galvanised themselves a lot in the past few years and look set to continue their assault on the music world all this summer.

They have also been getting involved with political debate in recent months with bassist Nicky Wire being reported in the BBC as launching a huge attack on the government’s plans to close many public libraries. They have been big supporters of educating the working classes in South Wales for years and their tour this summer looks set to help highlight their ambition.

Music Gigs in London – Iron Maiden

Heavy metal music fans in London mark your calendars for 5th and 6th August 2011, as Iron Maiden, one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world is going to be playing at the O2 Arena. This is one band which has gained much recognition (in terms of awards and fans) for their music globally over the past 30 odd years.

Formed by Steve Harris in 1975, Iron Maiden has sold more than 85 million records worldwide. This has been achieved solely on the basis of the band’s music alone, without much help from radio and television advertising. The band’s latest success was the Grammy awarded to them for their song “El Dorado” which won the award for “Best Metal Performance”. Their music has achieved cult status, inspiring other bands such as Metallica, Fozzy etc. The current members of the band apart from Steve Harris (bassist, studio keyboards) are Dave Murray (guitarist), Adrian Smith (backing vocals, guitarist), Nicko Mc Brain (drummer) and Janick Gers (guitarist).

The British band is likely to belt out music from its album titled “The Final Frontier”. “The Final Frontier” is also the band’s most successful album ever, reaching the number 1 spot in many countries. They are likely to reserve a very special performance for the London crowd, as the band originally is from the Leyton area of the city.

Being at a gig in London’s O2 Arena is always very special, because of the excellent acoustics and the high capacity crowd that can be accommodated. Iron Maiden is likely to play to packed crowds, so make sure that you book your tickets in advance. The tickets are quite affordable and you can buy one easily if you go easy on the diesel derby consumption for a week. They can be booked online through popular websites such as Ticketmaster. Additionally, look out for the band’s famous mascot Eddie, who is always present in their live shows!
