Union Chapel: Come Alive!
What does one need for a good music gig from the venue? Great sound and acoustics, well serviced beverages counters and seats! Ahem! Union Chapel is one venue that offers all this!
And with The Duke and The King playing out at a venue like that, one can expect to be going home smiling and of course foot tapping!
Married partners Hannah Lous and Trevor Moss demonstrated what a great couple they were – their combined performances were far better than their individual stage acts! Good reason they are married! ‘Cheap wine’ the cover piece picked up by the couple originally belonged to a good chap called Charlie Parr, a Minnasotian with a great ear for the bizarre! There was somebody who joined the couple on stage for sad versions of Springsteen and folk singing. His name is obviously shut out from memory; he may hang his boots as well!
The crowd was enjoying every eccentric moment (including the sad man’s performance) but that was no surprise since they were at the Chapel!
Performance by The Duke and The King is absolute melody to the crowd surprisingly, because their records give the impression of slow lilting music not meant for live gigs! The requirements for a live attention seeking audience are well fed by the band’s stage performance!
The band performed their own numbers and a rather fine cover of Crosby, Stills and Nash’s ‘Helplessly Hoping’. This one was much better reproduced by the Duke and King than the CSN’s last year gig at Glasto! The setting of the band was well co-ordinated and they were hitting out at each other’s instruments in style and enough to put up a grand performance for every attendee to enjoy!
The lead vocalist did try to put a lump to the evening by trying to fight his guitar however that was the only dampener for the entire evening!
The Duke and The King band deserve success and are well on their way to the path! Great music, great live performance and great venue!
All the elements combined to live up to the promise of a wonderful musical evening and only freebies were the attendees'smiles of satisfaction!
